England and Wales is divided into 6 legal Circuits for the purpose of hearing cases: the
South Eastern Circuit;
Midland Circuit;
Northern Circuit;
North Eastern Circuit;
Western Circuit and
Wales and Chester. For the avoidance of doubt, London is part of the South Eastern Circuit. A map of the different circuits may be found below. It is important to note that barristers are not limited to any particular Circuit; all barristers can practice on all Circuits. Most barristers are likely to have one or two Circuits where most of their work is. Using the Circuits is a good guide to identifying where a barrister usually operates.
You may find you get barristers based in another part of the country appearing in your search results. Most barristers will do work from any part of the country provided the remuneration covers any travelling necessary.
